Abstract
Formica picea Nylander, 1846 is a specialist ant of wet places. In the Iberian Peninsula, is known from few localities in the Pyrenees and the Cantabrian Mountains. We compile the few previous records and provide new locations for the species in Girona, León and Lleida provinces. The identification of Iberian samples as F. picea based on their biometry and other characteristics, as well as their distinction from the most similar species of the genus, is discussed.
