Abstract
We report the first record of the exotic ant Paratrechina longicornis (Latreille, 1802) in Extremadura (Spain). The finding occurred in September 2024 in Plaza de España, Mérida (Badajoz), where 37 foraging workers were collected. Identification was based on morphological traits examined under a stereomicroscope. This record, the most inland in Spain to date, highlights the species’ dispersal capacity facilitated by human activities. As P. longicornis is included in the Spanish Catalogue of Invasive Alien Species, this finding underlines the importance of monitoring inland areas to anticipate potential impacts on biodiversity and urban environments.
